Family board games on carpet: planning the drink spot
Make room for knees, game pieces and drinks when everyone gathers on the floor.

Start with where everyone will sit
Lay out the game and give each person enough space to change position without moving through the pieces. Floor games often spread beyond the board: cards fan outward, dice roll, and children shift from sitting to kneeling. Leave a clear way to stand up and walk out. Put snacks and drinks outside those movement routes rather than directly behind someone who cannot see them.
Check the carpet, not just the room
A carpeted room does not tell you whether a particular spot supports a drink. Steadi needs a level, firm area supporting the whole 5.2-inch base. Check for soft pile, uneven padding, rug folds, curled edges or objects underneath. If the base tilts, sinks unevenly or rocks when set down, choose another surface. A lifestyle photograph illustrates a setting; it cannot verify the support in your home.
Choose a drink spot people can see
Keep the drink within its owner’s comfortable reach but separate from knees, feet, loose blankets and the board. Do not hide it behind a floor cushion or put it in a doorway. An adult can demonstrate where to return drinks after each sip. Steadi slips onto compatible drinkware; it does not anchor the drink to the carpet or seal the opening. It is not a substitute for supervising younger children.
Have a simple alternative ready
A stable low side table can separate drinks from the floor game when the carpet is too soft or play becomes active. Check that the table itself is steady and that nobody needs to climb or reach over the game to use it. Move open drinks before clearing cards and standing up. If spilled liquid would ruin a special game, keeping drinks on a separate surface is more dependable than relying on any freestanding stabilizer.
